Part 3Registry status and what it means

Status on the registry: Active
Licence issued by: California Department of Motor Vehicles

Active means the school has registered with FMCSA and self-certified that its training meets the federal standards. No agency has inspected it for this listing, and the status says nothing about quality, price or pass rates. Removed schools disappear from this list; see the removed schools page.

Part 4Check before you enrol

Search the registry itself for "San Jose Unified School District" and make sure it is still listed on the day you pay.
Get the total price in writing: tuition, permit and test fees, truck hire for the skills test, and what a refund looks like if you leave.
Ask how many hours you will drive, how many students share a truck, and whether the trucks are manual or automatic (an automatic-only test puts a restriction on your licence).
For company-paid training, read the contract: how long you must stay, and what you owe if you leave early.
You test with the California Department of Motor Vehicles or another state's, and hold the licence where you live. State agencies on USA.gov.
Read the guide to choosing a CDL school.
